Sunshine Flowers

Like Summer in the House this type of sunshine (the bright colored flower-type) is what everyone wants on a rainy fall day in the Northwest. I love the excuse to bring flowers in my house -- I need something to paint after all. Happy sunny fall time everyone! I love to play off of the duality of the colors of autumn leaves found in little sunny beams of daisies and such.

Laughing Duck

This little bird of whimsy was created on a wood panel with ink showing the wood grain. I had this unfinished for some time and came back to it and added the white and yellow background.

I was not really sure what to do with this one at this point, but found the green frame. It pulls out color from the duck inside works wonders. Thanks little wooden green frame!

Nautilus -- Remake

This nautilus painting was started about a year ago and posted under the same name on 9/6/10 if you wish to reference. The acrylic part was the foundation. I liked the painting, but I thought something was missing. It looked a bit dull to me so I added the ink to bring about some more definition. Still wanting to brighten further I added touches of bright color throughout and bright strokes of blue and yellow in the background.

Daisies and Rocks in Water No. 5

This painting, just like the last one, continues the Daisies and Rocks series. This one is inside a square glass jar. These daisies are turning into lily pads.

Daisies and Rocks in Water No. 4

This is a continuation on from the "Daisies and Rocks" series. I added the word "Water" because this is an essential element that was forgotten. What if daises were the only rocks in a riverbed?

Cardinal In Tree

This little cardinal is along the ink drawing/painting lines as the owls and boobies that I have been working on. The other feathered friends never caused me as much trouble as this guy. For awhile there I thought I should crop this painting, but instead went with putting it inside a frame and letting the sides show.

Owl over Washington

 

Owl flying around Washington during Wild About Whatcom Traveling Show. Please see below locations and dates and stop by if the show stops by a location near you. The above photo is of my owl painting at the Allied Arts Show. I'll take a photo of each show and attach in a later post as the shows come up. It will be like the garden gnome traveling around in Amelie (sort of anyway.)

Owl at the Art Walk

It was such a fun experience to participate in the Allied Arts of Whatcom County Annual Members Show. It was inspiring to show with such a group of talented artists. The painting I selected to show was ink and watercolor painting "Pygmy Owl in Snow."

Ink and watercolor paintings such as this (with the added bonus of acrylic) will be further showcased at the Allied Arts Juried Artist Series. Expect to see these popping up for the November 2011 show opening November 4th.

Coastal Pines

Ink drawing sketch of a couple coastal pines. This is inspired by one of these recent windy days in the NW. These majestic plants are amazing holding tight to the edge of a cliff.

Ponderosa Pine

Ink drawing of a Ponderosa Pine found over in the Hood River area of Oregon. The thing I love most about a Ponderosa is the needles -- they appear to be so soft although we all know they are not.

Owl Gifts

My original artwork, Pygmy Owl in Snow, was used to create this series of holiday ornaments. Red zig-zag stitching is used to sew up the sides. I had a lot of fun with this creative process! It combines work I do in creating appliques and sewing (www.babybirddesigns.blogspot.com) with my fine art and design skills. A combination of all is seen here. 

Groupings on Display!

This grouping of my little paintings is on display at a local chiropractor's office. They recently moved into a new space and painted their walls with bright colors and wanted some bright paintings to grace them.

This grouping is of the floral and aquatic nature.

Sand-dollar Bouquet

If the starfish is the star of the sea the sand dollar is the flower of the sea. These critters have lovely flowers painted right onto them and for being mostly white--they sure do have a lot of color. What if sand dollars bundled together for a picture-perfect bouquet?

Blue-footed Booby 2

This is the second Blue-footed Booby image. I wanted to give this little guy more personality and character so this is my attempt. I don't think I'm finished with this yet . . . just haven't figured out what's missing. Any ideas?

Blue-footed Booby on Buttonhole Sea

Today I was practicing making buttonholes with my sewing machine. I really enjoyed the way the little patch was looking with the contrasting shades and with the bright blue string. Suddenly it came to me that the blue in the buttonholes would bring out the blue in the Booby's feet. Thus, this image now has the added element of collage. The square and circular shapes also contrast nicely on the bottom of the page, I think.

Note: I just changed the name of this painting. It started with the brilliant idea of my friend, Ariel, to include the word "buttonholes." Great idea Ariel!

Blue-footed Booby

I have had the recommendation from a very smart nature-lover (thanks to Laurie:) to create a Blue-footed Booby image for a long while now. I always thought this was a fabulous idea so I painted this little guy. The name booby comes from the Spanish term bobo, which means "stupid" or "fool"/"clown". For this reason I want to work more with this image to give it more personality and this characteristic. 

Flammulated Owl--The Original

This Flammulated Owl ink drawing was my first in this style of drawing and painting. Yesterday's post referenced this image so I wanted to display it today. I have a feeling I may continue to explore this avenue for a bit of time now. 

Pygmy Owl in Snow

This little pygmy owl is fluffying in the cold white snow. What a beautiful winter view he must have. 

I really enjoyed pulling my quill pens and ink out of the closet for this piece. I had done another owl in this style in the past and wanted to create this little owl in the same manner.

This painting has an image size of 5" x 5" and is framed in a 8" x 8" frame. 

Paper Bird

The shape of the bird is formed through the shapes on the paper. Both interact with each other.
